What is dentistry?

Dentistry in Turkey is one of the branches of human medicine, a science that is concerned with treating diseases of the mouth, teeth, jaws, and surrounding muscles, but also ways to maintain their health, and methods of preventing decay and bacteria that lead to complications that may cause their death.

The duration of the study of dentistry in Turkey is 5 years, and it may be extended for a whole year if the student does not hold a language specialization certificate, as it is considered a preparatory year for it.

Dentistry is divided into several specialties, namely:

The first dental university in Turkey was built in 1908, and in 2002 its number reached 18, then this number increased to 84 universities involved in teaching dentistry today.

In the beginning, a high school or bachelor’s certificate alone is not sufficient to study any medical specialty in Turkey. Rather, the student must pass the Turkish Aptitude Test (YÖS) or the American Exam (SAT) to be accepted to study in public universities in addition to his original certificate.

A student is accepted into private colleges to study dentistry or any other medical specialization if his high school or bachelor’s average is 70% or more.
